DR Sonia Ranelli

ABOUT SONIA

Dr Sonia Ranelli is a Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist with a Clinical Research doctorate (PhD). She has 30 years working experience as a Physiotherapist and has a special interest in the management of hand and upper limb musculoskeletal pain.

Sonia has worked extensively in private practice, and within the hospital system here in Perth and abroad in Oxford in the UK. She currently also works as an Advanced Clinical Practice Physiotherapist at the Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and in the Emergency Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH).

Sonia has expert clinical skills in the management of the patient with acute and chronic upper limb musculoskeletal pain. Her approach uses contemporary pain science to inform clinical reasoning, which when combined with her extensive knowledge and skills ensure that patient-centred goals and outcomes are realised.

Sonia held a tenured teaching and research academic position for over 20 years within the Physiotherapy Department of Curtin University’s School of Allied Health. She has lectured in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and pain, across both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs and continues lecturing as a sessional academic.

Sonia’s PhD research established her reputation in the health and well-being of young musicians locally, nationally and internationally, providing world-first data in this group of musicians. Her unique combination of research and clinical expertise has placed her in a strong position to continue and embrace opportunities for translational research in the area of hand and upper limb musculoskeletal problems more broadly.

We are excited to have Sonia consulting with her expert care Upper Limb clinic one day per week at the Pure Sports Physio clinic in Osborne Park, where our goal is to make high performance healthcare available to every body.
